چکیده

The measurement and interpretation of isotopic yield ratios in heavy ion reactions at intermediate and high energies are discussed and the usefulness of these observables for establishing equilibrium properties and for determining thermodynamic parameters is illustrated. The examples are mainly taken from work performed with lighter projectiles at intermediate and high energies and from studies of spectator reactions at relativistic energies. As an application, the caloric curve of nuclei, as derived for Au on Au collisions, is introduced and discussed. 1 to appear in ”Isospin Physics in Heavy-Ion Collisions at Intermediate Energies” Eds. A normal equilibrium isotope effect for oxidative addition of H2 to (eta6-anthracene)Mo(PMe3)3.

Oxidative addition of H2 and D2 to the anthracene complex (eta6-AnH)Mo(PMe3)3 giving (eta4-AnH)Mo(PMe3)3X2 (X = H, D) is characterized by a normal equilibrium isotope effect (KH/KD > 1) at temperatures close to ambient; calculations on (eta4-AnH)Mo(PH3)3H2 indicate that this is a consequence of relatively low energy Mo-H vibrational modes.

Temperatures of Aqueous Alteration on Cm Chondrite Parent Bodies Based on Carbonate ‘clumped-isotope’ Thermometry

Introduction: Aqueous alteration of primitive meteorites was among the earliest differentiation processes in the solar system [1], and a better understanding of it would help constrain and test models of the thermal and chemical evolution of planetesimals. One of the challenges is to establish the temperatures of alteration. Petrographic analysis of CM matrices [2] suggest their temperatures of...

Oxygen and hydrogen isotope compositions of Permian pedogenic phyllosilicates: Development of modern surface domain arrays and implications for paleotemperature reconstructions

Mineralogic, chemical, and oxygen and hydrogen isotope compositions of 15 different phyllosilicate samples from Permo– Pennsylvanian-age paleosols of the eastern shelf of the Midland basin of Texas and the southern Anadarko basin are presented. Mixtures of 2 :1 phyllosilicates and kaolinite dominate most samples, although some samples consist of relatively pure 2 :1 phyllosilicates. Chemical an...

Clumped Isotopic Equilibrium and the Rate of Isotope Exchange between Co2 and Water

The reaction of CO2 hydration/dehydration controls the oxygen isotopic composition in both carbonate minerals and atmospheric CO2 through the exchange of oxygen isotopes with water. The use of O as an environmental indicator typically assumes isotopic equilibrium, namely full oxygen isotope exchange between CO2 and water. Clumped isotopes is a new isotopic tracer that is used in both CaCO3 and ...

Equilibrium properties of dense hydrogen isotope gases based on the theory of simple fluids.

We present a new method for the prediction of the equilibrium properties of dense gases containing hydrogen isotopes. The proposed approach combines the Feynman-Hibbs effective potential method and a deconvolution scheme introduced by Weeks et al. The resulting equations of state and the chemical potentials as functions of pressure for each of the hydrogen isotope gases depend on a single set o...

Boron isotope geochemistry during diagenesis. Part II. Applications to organic-rich sediments

The measured clay-water isotope fractionation for boron was applied to natural organic-rich sediments undergoing illitization. Two field areas were chosen that show illitization occurring over a range of temperatures (80–500°C). Samples representing diagenetic temperatures of illitization (80–200°C) are from the Gulf of Mexico sedimentary basin at 4 to 6-km depth in the Eocene Wilcox Fm and Jur...
